Firstly, I would like to thank you for taking the time to visit Bundaberg Mobile Nursing Care webpage. My name is Andrew Weiss, I am a proud born and bred Bundaberg nurse.
I grew up on Electra St, with my Mother, Grandmother and Brother. Although I have other siblings they were much older and had moved out of home.
As a youngster I suffered from a rare bone disease called Legg Calve Perthes disease, which hindered my mobility for majority of my formative years. Around the aged of 8 I was cleared to be free of my frames that I had worn since the age of 4.

Once fully recovered I played rugby league with ‘Natives’ which is now known as East Magpies, I attended East, South and West primary schools and Bundaberg High.
I was also involved with the West Bundaberg Scout Group, where I developed many friendship and love of scouting. Until recently I was still involved with Scouts Australia in Townsville as a trainer and assessor, group leader and scout section leader.
I spent my younger years as an apprentice butcher at Everett’s on Bingera Street, but I did not like being stuck inside 4 walls all day. I got married at 18, packed up and moved to Townsville in 1993, my beautiful daughter joined us in 1996. I remained in Townsville until 2017 before moving back to Bundaberg. I did a variety of jobs in Townsville, driving trucks, taxis, and buses before settling into a career as a coach captain with Greyhound.
I met my now wife in 2001 and we have a 3yr old son. I also have 2 of the most precious gems, my Grandkids
Nursing was never something I thought I would get into, and to be honest, I kind of fell into it. I had a stay in the Townsville hospital and was cared for by 2 male nurses, and they planted the seed.
I graduated James Cook University in 2012 with a Bachelor of Nursing Science, with an added mental health major. I have also completed a post graduate Diploma in Mental Health Nursing with CQU
In my career as a nurse I have worked in a variety of settings including:
- Mental health inpatient and community
- Secure forensic
- Medical and Surgical wards
- Radiation oncology
- Cardio thoracic
- Emergency
- Aged care- residential and community
I currently still remain clinical within Qld Health at the Bundaberg Hospital Emergency Department. I am a clinical nurse within the Geriatric Emergency Department Intervention Team. My areas of interest are
- Gerontology
- Palliative Care
- Indigenous Health
I also work clinically for NMBA National boards (AHPRA) as an examiner on a casual basis, and study at CSU where I am 4 subjects away from my Graduate Diploma of Paramedicine.

Apart from nursing, I enjoy my time as a firefighter with Qld Fire Rescue, also volunteering my time with the rural fire service as a firefighter with Calavos , watching my grandson play football, chasing my granddaughter and spending time with my wife and son
